Following the postponement of the 2020 TOCA Race Meeting calendar due to the Covid-19 pandemic, MINI CHALLENGE UK have undertaken extensive consultation with key stakeholders, especially entrants, regarding their preferences for the replacement calendar.
It was clear from the feedback that entrants would face insurmountable financial and logistical challenges should the calendar be too concentrated, so it has been agreed with entrants that the calendar would be reduced from 8 to 5 race meetings, spread across the foreshortened calendar as evenly as possible.
FIVE ROUNDS TO SUPPORT TOCA PACKAGE
The resulting calendar that has been agreed is as follows:
August 01/02 – Donington Park
August 29/30 – Knockhill
September 26/27 – Silverstone
October 24/25 – Snetterton
November 14/15 – Brands Hatch Indy
Each event will consist of the maximum number of races possible, with final timetables to be released in due course.
The JCW Class and Cooper Class will both continue to benefit from free to air TV coverage on ITV4 at the TOCA events they attend.
Antony Williams, Championship Director said:
“Our entrants are what make our Championship what it is and it was only right and proper to fully involve them in the decision regarding how we react to the situation we all find ourselves in. It has been heartwarming to receive the support of the vast majority of our competitors and to have worked with them in such a constructive way to agree a plan that respects their personal, business and economic challenges, whilst also appreciating that everyone has to make compromises against the backdrop we all face. We also plan to introduce a system that rewards those who have stood by us this year, with the details to be communicated shortly.
2020 will still be a challenging season with the restrictions that are likely to remain, but life must go on and we are excited to get racing again from the start of August and testing again at our Goodyear test day on 09 July at Snetterton“
