“That was a much better weekend for both me and the team. We struggled in qualifying with the balance of the car on the hard tyre, it was on a knife edge which really tested my bravery through Church which is a 120mph corner!

“We stayed late on Saturday night to look through the data and come up with some solutions and whilst the car still wasn’t perfect, it massively improved so a big thanks to the boys for getting the car in a window where we could challenge for points.

“The racing was as intense as ever and I found myself scrapping for points in all three of the day’s races, scoring in two of them. These days it’s really tricky to overtake at Thruxton which meant we couldn’t unleash everything that we had and were forced to pretty much wait for dramas but front to be able to capitalise.

“Obviously, we want to be higher up the field but it is reassuring that we were able to fight on a track that hasn’t suited the CC for some time and the way our luck has been this season, I’m just thankful that we were able to maximise race day for the first time this year by being competitive and keeping our nose clean in each race.

“Next up is Silverstone, a track which I won at in 2019 to help the team takes its first BTCC victory! There will definitely be a buzz around the team and hopefully we can continue to move our way up the grid and bag a good haul of points this weekend.”

Tom Onslow-Cole

“It’s great to be back but also great to get the first event under my belt. It was always going to be a huge challenge to step in after some seven years away, especially straight into a race weekend on the fastest circuit in the country.

“I’ve made some bad starts this weekend as I haven’t done a standing start for a while but each one is getting better and I felt like the racecraft was still there and I had some fantastic battles with some of the other guys out on track.

“We were missing a little bit of pace at the beginning of the weekend but slowly but surely things seemed to be improving and I’ve left Thruxton feeling back at home with the team and the CC and I’m ready to hit Silverstone head on and get the team some much deserved points.”

Tony Gilham – Managing Director

“We were worried coming into the weekend in all honesty, the Volkswagen CC hasn’t been suited to this circuit for the last couple of years, but we come away from the weekend relatively pleased with the outcome.

“Saturday was tricky, and we were struggling to find the right setup for the car on the hard tyre as we haven’t tested that compound with the new chassis developments. However, for Sunday’s races we really turned a corner and managed to find roughly a second a lap which put us right in the hunt for points across the three races.

“Jack did a great job to get the CC into the points in two of the three races this weekend and his pace was enough for him to hang onto the tail end of the top 10, all things considered going into the weekend, we have to be happy with that.

“It was great to have Tom back in the seat this weekend, his experience proved vital in turning our weekend around between qualifying and race day. Whilst the results may not look spectacular for Tom, he’s done a great job to make his comeback on the fastest racetrack in the country. I have full confidence that he will be in the hunt for points at Silverstone next time out.

“Overall, a weekend where we must take the positives away to start on the front foot at Silverstone, a track we go well out usually. I’m looking forward to seeing if Jack and Tom can break into the top 10.”
