- Less than 1.3 seconds separated the entire 27 car grid in today’s qualifying session at Silverstone
- Carl recorded his highest ever qualifying position of his BTCC career in 13th
- Jack was the lead Volkswagen CC in P18, just 0.6 seconds off the pole position time
- Rain threatened to play a role in the qualifying session but whilst it did drizzle it had zero effect on lap time
Carl: “I’m really happy with how that qualifying session went, I left absolutely nothing on the table! We have been conservative throughout the day but when it mattered, we were able to unleash the potential of the BMW 1 Series.
I’m in a great position to utilise the rear wheel-drive of the BMW to get inside the top 10 early on in race 1 tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to mixing it a bit higher up the field, watch out for the gold machine!”
Jack: “I gave that everything today! Whilst we end up in 18th on the day, I had a great time out on track and got everything out of the old girl. We were only 0.6seconds away from the pole position time which highlights how competitive this series is.
“It’s been the same old story today to be honest coming out of the corners which is hindering our top end speed. High speed stability in the car has been good so hopefully we can use that tomorrow and move forward in the race.
“So, whilst today has been fun we are overall left disappointed but as last week, we are looking to capitalise on our race pace and bring home a good haul of points tomorrow!”
Tom: “I’ve felt much more comfortable in the car today and feel at home in the BTCC again, it’s such a great series.
“The car has felt good today and the pace in FP1 and FP2 was good and we were mixing it in the points paying positions. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite get it hooked up in qualifying and will line up tomorrow somewhat out of position in 21st.
“Over a race distance this car is very competitive still and on a track where overtaking is a possibility I’ll working on getting on the tail on Jack early doors and working with him to push through the field.”
Nic: “Well it’s great to be back after a frustrating weekend at Thruxton after issues with my hand clutch. The team worked tirelessly to find a solution with such a tight turn-around before this weekend at Silverstone and continued issues at last nights shakedown, so I am very grateful for their efforts, with their dedication hard work being unquestionable.
“After a productive and positive day today, in terms of development, I’m really looking forward to the fight tomorrow. Its a close field and with plenty of opportunities to overtake, so I’m excited to make some progress!
