Hasn’t been done before, racing in two championships with two completely different cars at the same weekend.
#VW Golf GTI 270 bhp front wheel drive and a #Ginetta G55 GT4 350 bhp rear wheel drive.
Started on Saturday with two 1 hour practices in the Ginetta followed by the Quali for the Maximumgroup.net VAG Trophy. Result: P 1 pole Position. Great start I thought, only two learn that I been disqualified from Quali and “promoted” to the back of the grid + 10 sec time penalty #startfromtheback
Race 1 in the wet from the back P11, not too bad I thought, only to be promoted again back to the back for apparently overtaking under yellow.
Race 2 from the back with a good portion of frustration to finish after 15 min P 2 and the well deserved podium.
Between Race 1 and Race 2 in the VAG Trophy I qualified for the British GT Championship – Brands Hatch GP in the Ginetta GT4. P8 out of 22 GT4’s not too bad. That was my Saturday at Brands.
Sunday started nice and sunny, open pitlane lots of autographs for thousands of fans.
2 pm race start for the 2 hour endurance race in the Ginetta GT4. I started the race with a rolling start beeing too cautious at the first corner “Paddock Hill” and lost 4 places. Which I was able to make up again in my 1 hour stint before Adam Hatfield took over the car doing a great race to finish in P9. Never been done but with a good portion of madness and the help of a fantastic Team Team-HARD. Racing and everybody who pushed me and shouted at me. Great thanks to Tony Gilham to make it all happen, to Ben Kattenhorn who keeps me calm, Claus Lips for coming over to support me, Debbie Gilham and Debbie Squires who hug and feed me. Steve Merron who prepare my VW to the best and Aaran Stroudd, Sean Warnes, Eddy Hall, Peter Farrow and Lydia Ormesher carrying my stuff
